A new treatment for that can work within 10 minutes has launched in the UK.
It is a gel called Eroxon, and has been clinically proven to work for people with mild to severe erectile dysfunction.
Eroxon is made by Futura Medical, a pharmaceutical company based in the UK.
Eroxon is applied to the head of the penis, where the gel evaporates, with this evaporation stimulates vascular and neural nerve endings by rapidly cooling and warming the area. This triggers the release of nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, therefore increasing blood flow to the penis and causing an erection.
The release of nitric oxide is also how other erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments such as Viagra work, but they have the disadvantage of relaxing blood vessels in the entire body, since they are taken orally and not applied directly. This can lead to side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches.
These side effects mean people with pre-existing health conditions, such as heart and liver disease, cannot take oral ED pills. They are also not safe for people who have recently had a stroke, and cannot be taken with some prescription medicines.
Dr Hilary Jones, who regularly appears as a health expert on ITV, told: “The word ‘breakthrough’ is often used in health headlines, but new treatments which are truly groundbreaking come along far less frequently. Eroxon is an innovative therapy which has the potential to change the lives of millions of men with erectile dysfunction.”
Dr Catherine Hood, a sexual health specialist, added: “When they were launched back in the 90s, PDE5i medicines were a game-changer, but they are not an option for many men due to pre-existing health conditions, interactions with their prescription medicines or simply because of the time they take to work.”
In a 12-week clinical trial of 250 people, two out of three reported a significant improvement in their ability to achieve and maintain an erection. The figure rose to 80 per cent for those with severe erectile dysfuncion.
The gel is available over the counter, without a prescription. Eroxon costs £24.99 for a pack of four single-use tubes, and is available from Boots stores and online.

Pharmacology:Pharmacodynamics:Two potent PDE-5 inhibitors (PDE-5 inhibitors) have been used to treat angina pectoris (a condition in which a person has no heart or blood vessels) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).1 Two of the most common PDE-5 inhibitors include sildenafil (Viagra) and vardenafil (Levitra).2
Erectile Dysfunction:The role of PDE-5 inhibitors in the management of erectile dysfunction has been primarily investigated in the context of erectile dysfunction.3Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined in the UK as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient to have sexual intercourse.4 It isiciency if the capacity to achieve and maintain an erection is deficient in both men and women, who are aged 40 years and above, or who have diabetes, or have a severe medical problem such as cardiovascular disease, or have a disease in which the blood vessels supplying the blood brain barrier (B B), for example mononucleosis, emetocytes or sickle cell anemia.5 Some studies suggest a correlation between ED and lowered blood pressure when ED is treated with nitrates, such as glyceryl trinitrate (as a alpha-blocker) or isosorbide mononitrate (as a nitroglycerin), but the evidence is not strong enough to confirm this association.6 However, the evidence is not strong enough to prove that ED is a direct cause of blood pressure lowering.7
Studies in patients with heart failure (NYHA Class II-IV) and chronic heart failure (NYHA II-II) indicate that nitrates are a potent vasodilator (e.g. in the isosorbide group) and that even moderate doses are sufficient to achieve and maintain an erection.8 Moreover, isosorbide dinitrate (as a monosubstituted nitrate of diethyl nitrite) is more potent at vasodilating the penis and it achieves the same effect by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) and endothelial COX isoforms.9
The role of PDE5 inhibitors in the management of patients with erectile dysfunction is limited in the overall scientific community. Research in the areas of pharmacotherapy, pharmacogenomics, genomics, and data-extraction is limited.10 The aim of this review is to review the available evidence on the potential effects of PDE5 inhibitors in the management of erectile dysfunction.
Pharmacokinetics:Pde5 Inhibition: Sildenafil is an angina medication that reduces the blood pressure by relaxing the smooth muscle and increasing blood flow to the penis.
